Defenders Tournament

This was my attempt to create a 1 versus 1 realtime-online-multiplayer-battle-game in a medieval setting. Player profiles/characters were stored on the internet and could be configureed and upgraded.

Although I already had spent a lot of time on it, it was still in its early stage as I was the only person working on it: solving several problems at the same time: extending Virtools through its SDK (Networking, Web-Interface etc), modelling, texturing, skinning, animation and of course application/game-logic.

I started working on the 3d content at the April, 1., 2003 part-time and then from 1. June to 17 July fulltime on the game-logic (the game itself) and the improvement of the extensions and 3d content. At the same time I wrote my 130 pages long thesis which partly covered the project and generally the aspect of rapid development of real-time applications with small teams using 3ds max 5.1 and Virtools 2.1 as production tools.

I started to learn Virtools SDK programming (and c++) about 3 years ago (end 2001). It was planned that most of those components would have been used by the game - but unfortunately the game development wasn't far enough to integrate all of them: like auto-downloading new or updated content from the web and a irc-based game-/match-lobby.

This project is on hold since end 2003 and will be quite a while for hold. For all those who subscribed for an account, thank you for your interest. I'll contact you, when a important change will happen concering this project. Thanks for following so far. :)

A little tips for Virtools developers: even if you don't like CharacterStudio a lot, like I did. Go for it - it is better supported by Virtools and in the long run, you will have less troubble than with any other complex rig solution.
