Fatal
I read about NeMo 1.01 (the former name of Virtools Dev) in a magazine,
and was immediately interested in it. I downloaded the demo, but
never took the time to learn it ('cause of my study schedule). So
in the course "authoring systems I" my prof said that
he is not aware of any 3D authoring system, only those for 2D (that
was before macromedia added the 3d extra to director). So I talked
to him about NeMo and to make a long story short: the next course,
entitled "authoring systems II" was with NeMo ! (Semester
1.10.2000 - 31.1.2001).
Unfortunately it was for most of the students a flop as the prof
was overwhelmed by the number of things one needed to now - especially
as he started to look in to 3ds max for content creation, too. So
a girl, which had worked with NeMo during her stage at TerraTools
and I, because I was [ ? ;) ] so fascinated by the subject, introduced
mostly the others to NeMo and 3ds max.
Friends were saying, that after I started to learn NeMo I suddenly
disappeared from their view for some months ... hehe. So "Fatal"
was the finishing project of this course. It's a little scene from
an adventure we wanted to do.
Fatal is the name of a little magician aprentince, who was fired
by his master because he never obeys and always creates chaos. He
then walkes into the land without aim and without knowing that his
first adventure has started ...
I created the scene where Fatal found the secret entrance to a
cave, where the magic mirror is hidden, which he needs to get in
order to defeat a dragon [there was some joke about it, but I can't
remember it any more]. At the beginning he is teleported into the
cave through a stargate-like system. Then the user takes control
of Fatal and needs to solve a very easy enigma to get to the mirror.
Unfortunately I only managed once to export a early untextured
version of Fatal to NeMo with a dummy animation for walking. I later
tried to export the real version for months but never successfully.
Posts on the SwapMeet forum were talking about same problems but
some managed to export - as I did. But every combination I tried
later, it was without any success. Months later I met Francois from
Virtools who disclosed to me that it actually never worked ....
:| ... if I had known this earlier ... !
